I am a self-taught artist-- other than taking a couple of seminars  .I strive to create things of
beauty--feeling that beauty is a manifestation of the spiritual in life. My definition of beauty isn’t
the shallow, surface beauty our consumer culture promotes. The beauty I refer to is the deeper
spiritual beauty inherent in nature and its life forms.  I find beauty  in nature from the
microscopic to the macro-cosmic. Sometimes this beauty is fierce and sometimes it is
gentle-- but it is beauty all the same. I try to portray this beauty in my sculptures using line and
form to give the viewer a feeling for the essence of the subject---it is here that  true beauty lies.

Many things inspire me in my art and, unfortunately, there isn’t  time in each day to follow all
the  paths of inspiration.  I am presently focusing on  "Romance Cultures",such as Spain and
Latin America.

Each sculpture starts not really as an idea so much as a "feeling". The subject has to touch me
deeply inside. Then I let it incubate within my mind for a few days--or weeks, experimenting
with several compositions. I don't  draw my sculptures beforehand--preferring a more
spontaneous approach.  I love the medium of clay for its flexibility, which allows me to "play"
with the subject as I compose it. I  do research on the internet and in the library as I get ready
to start a sculpture, feeding my imagination with pictures and information. I love the research
phase and learning about new things. When I start sculpting, I  play music connected to the
subject. During the sculpting process, a moment comes when I can literally feel the clay come
to life under my hands. This moment tells me I am on the right track

I hope you enjoy my work.
